Frequently Asked Questions

About Bede

  • Bede is a line of handmade fidget jewelry designed and created by autistic artist Diva Dompé. Each piece is designed to be grounding, tactile and expressive — jewelry you can wear, touch, and connect with throughout your day.

  • “Bede” is the Old English spelling of “bead,” and it also means “prayer.” The name reflects the long human tradition of using jewelry and beads for comfort, focus, connection, and ritual.

  • I use recycled sterling silver, stainless steel, and recycled or fair trade gemstone/glass/shell beads. Each material is chosen for its durability, tactile feel, and ethical sourcing.

  • Bede jewelry is made using recycled sterling silver, stainless steel, gemstones, glass, and mother of pearl. Whenever possible, I source recycled or fair trade beads and metals. These designations are listed on each product page.

The supply chain for jewelry materials is complex and not always fully transparent, but I do my best to research and source from suppliers with responsible labor and environmental practices or selling recycled materials. That said, it is not always possible to know how ethical the source is.

    Some of our suppliers include:

    • recycled sterling silver from G-Silver or Halstead.

    • Stainless steel from Garlan Chain.

    • Beads from Intrinsic Trading and Estate Beads.

  • Every piece of Bede jewelry is designed and handmade by me, Diva — an artist, parent, and autistic maker based in Los Angeles. I started Bede after making myself a fidget bracelet to celebrate my autism diagnosis, and it grew into a way to share that joy, regulation, and connection with others.

  • Each piece is designed with movement and/or texture in mind — beads, rings, or components that you can roll, spin, or touch. They’re meant to offer comfort and sensory regulation with aesthetic and style at the forefront.

Jewelry Care

    • Sterling Silver: Store in a dry place and occasionally polish with a soft cloth to prevent tarnish. Avoid wearing in pools or hot tubs.

    • Stainless Steel: Very low maintenance — simply wipe clean with a soft cloth when needed.

Avoid harsh chemicals, lotions, or perfumes directly on your jewelry to keep it looking its best.

  • Stainless steel pieces can handle light water exposure, but for longevity, it’s best to remove all jewelry before swimming or showering.
